The primary purpose of #EQ4ALL@LLS is be a part of a national conversation that tells the stories of individuals committed to fighting for equality and equity for all. As such, we are drafting a proposal for a Storytelling for Social Justice Initiative to encourage other schools and organization to join.
We began our website on April 4, 2017, the 49th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s death. The main feature is our profiles of individuals committed to equality and equity for all. These profiles are featured on our home page and then archived. The topic is:
I am a __________ and this is why I’m fighting for equality for all.
The blank is not intended to be filled by a role, e.g., lawyer. The blank should relate to a consequence of birth. That is a humble reminder that what we become in life, e.g., a lawyer, that does not change the fact that we were all born into this world as human beings and are equal in worth and dignity on that basis alone.
By sharing the narratives of individuals committed to equality and equity for all, we hope others will be able to see just how important it is that we eradicate prejudice and that we do that now. This includes addressing and remedying the lingering effects of explicit and implicit bias that still plagues both our nation and the world.
